Debi

I'm a single mom of a fantastic young man that you'll see me write about often. I have "grown up" with my son and, despite what everyone told me when he reached his teens, we have been best friends for years.

I was raised by a single mom, who encouraged me to always do my best, no matter what I chose to do. That encouragement has been key in achieving what I have achieved so far in my life. For quite a while, including the first year of my son's life, I was working 3 jobs at a time. Once I figured out that I wasn’t getting to spend time with my son, I went to college. I managed to graduate in 1993...as a single mom. My extracurricular activities included being a Den Mom, Room Mom, Soccer Coach, and Baseball Coach.

During the past 10 years, a lot has changed. I’ve gone from being a Computer Programmer to being an Entrepreneur...from being broke and on the welfare system to making more in a month than I made during my best year in Corporate America...from being an occasional participant in Breast Cancer Fundraising walks to a becoming a year-round Proactive Fundraiser for a Cure...from commuting 2 hours a day for a job I tolerated to working from my home and doing what I’m passionate about.

So what do I tell you? I’m a full-time college student studying Criminal Justice Studies.

As a kid, I spent 4 years in Scouts and played soccer for 10 years. At age 15, I became a referee, coach, and a member of the AYSO Board of Directors. I was homeschooled through high school and have had the opportunity to travel quite a bit, from the Bahamas and Cancun, to Indonesia, Singapore, Fiji and more.

Like my mom, I’ve been through quite a bit and changed a lot during the past 10 years. Besides traveling and coaching, I’ve had the opportunity to spend time with enlightened, self-made business people, along with attending some very life-changing seminars and camps.

And now we're creating this website. When I started walking in breast cancer walks, I wasn’t aware that my grandma was a Survivor (or at least I didn’t completely understand what that meant). I learned very quickly (and very young) how devastating a lack of knowledge can be, so our Mission is very important to me. As it says, if we can keep a single family from experiencing what we’ve been through in losing my grandma, we will have changed the world for the better.

Our mission

To provide fundraising & support for the family, friends, and associates of breast cancer survivors that will allow them to:

• Keep in touch with people during hectic times

• Do research without searching all over the internet

• Find resources that will allow them work from home so they can care for the loved one

• Ask questions of others who are going through the same issues so they can share resources and know they’re not alone

• Have a place to set up memorial pages for a loved one they’ve lost

• Have a place to set up celebration pages for loved ones who are survivors

• Have access to experts they can ask questions of so that they know their loved one is receiving proper information and care

• Know where to do research for their loved ones so they can assist and feel useful

If we keep a single family from experiencing what we went through, we will have accomplished our goal...
